Independent Non-Executive Director (Technology / Transformation)
Use your expertise to help shape the future of healthcare
BrisDoc is a clinician-led, employee-owned social enterprise delivering NHS urgent and primary care across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. Every day, our services support patients, communities and care teams across a population of more than one million people.
We are looking to appoint an Independent Non-Executive Director with a focus on Technology / Transformation to join our Board.
This is an opportunity to bring your strategic insight, independent judgement and specialist expertise to a role where digital, data and transformation directly support safer, more resilient and more responsive care.
Whether you are an experienced Non-Executive Director or a senior digital, data or transformation leader ready for a first Board role, this is a chance to make a meaningful contribution in a values-led organisation with social purpose at its heart.
Why join BrisDoc?
This is not a conventional Board opportunity. BrisDoc is an employee-owned social enterprise, led by clinicians and driven by purpose. We reinvest in our services and communities, and we are committed to care that is compassionate, sustainable and inclusive.
For the right person, this role offers a distinctive combination of public service, strategic influence and genuine purpose. You will join a Board that values constructive challenge, thoughtful oversight and strong relationships, and where your contribution has a clear line of sight to patient care.
What you’ll do
As our Independent Non-Executive Director for Technology / Transformation, you will help the Board provide oversight, assurance and challenge in relation to technology, data and organisational change.
Key responsibilities include:
• Contributing to organisational strategy from a technology and transformation perspective
• Providing independent challenge on governance, prioritisation and accountable leadership
• Reviewing assurance on the resilience, security and performance of BrisDoc’s digital, data and technology landscape
• Supporting Board oversight of cyber risk, information governance, data protection and significant technology-enabled risk
• Providing constructive challenge on the governance and deliverability of major transformation and change activity
• Offering balanced support and challenge to Executive Directors and senior leaders
The role also includes engagement beyond the Boardroom, including site visits, assurance-related activity and contribution to, or possible chairing of, a relevant Board subcommittee focused on areas such as digital, transformation, performance, audit or risk.
Who we’re looking for
We are looking for someone who brings senior-level expertise in technology, digital, data and/or organisational transformation, alongside the credibility, independence and judgement to contribute effectively at Board level.
You will bring:
• Significant senior experience in technology, digital, data and/or transformation within a complex or regulated environment
• The ability to interpret complex technical or transformation information and turn it into clear, balanced assurance and insight
• Experience contributing to strategic decision-making in relation to technology-enabled change, risk or governance
• Strong analytical skills and sound judgement, particularly in relation to technology risk, digital resilience, information governance or transformation delivery
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence constructively and act as a trusted critical friend
• A collaborative style, personal integrity and confidence in handling sensitive or complex issues
• Commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and alignment with BrisDoc’s values
Board or Non-Executive Director experience would be valuable. We also welcome interest from senior executive leaders with the insight and presence to take on a first Non-Executive appointment.
Experience in healthcare, public services or another regulated sector would be an advantage, as would an understanding of NHS or NHS-adjacent digital, data or transformation contexts.
Time commitment and remuneration
• Approx. 2 days / 15 hours per month
• £57.31 per hour, paid monthly
• Initial term of three years
• Based at BrisDoc Headquarters, South Bristol, with travel to other BrisDoc sites and partner locations as required
