Residential Therapeutic worker - Rehabilitation Drugs and Alcohol
We are recruiting a Therapeutic Worker to join our innovative Enhanced Therapeutic Community Residential Service in Oakwood, Derby. Our service provides residential rehabilitation for individuals seeking recovery from substance misuse within a supportive and therapeutic environment.
Our purpose-built service offers excellent facilities, including on-site staff accommodation with en-suite facilities for night shifts, a gym, staff changing rooms and showers, parking, and electric vehicle charging points.
The Role
As a Therapeutic Worker, you will play a vital role within our therapeutic community. You will manage a caseload, undertake assessments, and develop, implement, and review care plans that support individuals throughout their recovery journey.
Working within the Therapeutic Community "Community as Method" model, you will empower individuals, families, and communities to build confidence in recovery and achieve positive, long-term outcomes. You will work collaboratively with residents to address a range of needs, including health, education, employment, social integration, and independent living skills.
You will coordinate support throughout an individual's time with the service, from referral and admission through to discharge and aftercare planning, ensuring a seamless and person-centred approach. You will also facilitate therapeutic groups, activities, and structured interventions in line with the Therapeutic Community model and the needs of the service.
The successful candidate will support the day-to-day running of the therapeutic community, helping to create a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused environment that reflects the principles of a Recovery Oriented System of Care and the Quality Principles. As part of the role, you will work closely with external agencies, stakeholders, and families to ensure the best possible outcomes for residents.
Previous experience within the substance use sector is desirable but not essential. We recognise that excellent Support Workers come from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds. We are looking for individuals who demonstrate the right values, compassion, resilience, and willingness to learn and develop within a therapeutic environment.
This is a full-time position, averaging 37.5 hours per week. You will work on a 6-week rolling rota, which includes evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
About You
You will ideally have:
- An understanding of the complex issues faced by individuals experiencing drug and alcohol dependency and recovery.
- Experience of working with individuals and families within the substance use sector or a related field.
- The ability to build positive therapeutic relationships and work in a person-centred manner.
- A flexible and innovative approach to meeting the needs of the service and the people we support.

- Strong communication, organisational, and record-keeping skills.
- A commitment to recovery-focused practice and continuous professional development.
