Acorn offers a safe and welcoming environment for those people in need of support. We deliver an array of services ranging from Residential Rehabilitation, Recovery Housing, Community Services including substance use programmes and mental health support to complex needs supported housing. The services span across Greater Manchester and Lancashire, and support people to gain the skills to sustain independence, improve their wellbeing through meaningful activity and maintain their recovery by connecting with a passionate team of lived experience individuals.

The Opportunity

The Housing Support Worker provides practical and emotional support to vulnerable individuals to help them sustain their tenancies, develop independent living skills, and improve their overall wellbeing. The role involves assisting residents with housing-related matters, financial management, and access to welfare support, while promoting safety, safeguarding, and personal development. By working closely with residents and external agencies, Housing Support Workers enable individuals to achieve stability, independence, and positive engagement with their communities.

What We’re Looking For

We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have:

Essential:

They will have proven experience supporting vulnerable individuals to sustain tenancies, manage finances, and develop independent living skills, alongside safeguarding experience. Essential skills include strong communication, problem-solving, conflict resolution, time management, and the ability to build positive professional relationships, together with knowledge of housing legislation, welfare benefits, risk management, and equality and diversity principles

Desirable:

Desirable attributes include experience in supported housing or social care, working with vulnerable groups, and familiarity with housing management systems. Additional strengths include training in trauma-informed or recovery-focused approaches, confidence in facilitating group sessions, strong advocacy and partnership-working skills, and experience supporting residents into education, employment, or volunteering. Adaptability, flexibility, and a commitment to ongoing professional development are also valued.
