About The Team We Are Recruiting To

The Housing and Homelessness Service is a very busy environment  and faces several challenges to meet the housing needs of citizens of Coventry. The team have grown significantly during the last 12 months and this reflects the fact that Housing & Homelessness are now a key council priority.

The team are responsible for the delivery of the following service functions:

Provision of the statutory homeless service
Provision of temporary accommodation
Management of the housing register
Co-ordination of support to citizens rough sleeping
Commissioning of homeless services, and
Responsibility for housing strategy

The Council has a strategic vision that is clearly set out in both the Housing & Homelessness and the Rough Sleeping Strategies which were both approved in 2019.

By becoming part of an expanding team who are focused on preventing households from becoming homeless as well as providing tailored support and interventions when someone does become homeless this is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to some of the most vulnerable people in our city.

What is the job role?

Coventry’s Rough Sleeping Team have secured some additional funding to develop a new enhanced service offer for the most complex individuals in the city. An intensive accommodation and support model using psychologically and trauma informed approaches and intervention to support people with a multitude of complexities to become tenancy ready.

These new roles will be part of a small team supporting 15 people in a micro hostel setting who have previously repeatedly fallen out of accommodation and are part on the revolving door of homelessness and rough sleeping. Each staff member will work with a small caseload of individuals to help them acquire the skills and address the challenges that they face in terms of sustaining accommodation in order to achieve positive outcomes and move on. The team is part of the wider Rough Sleeping Team and will work in partnership with multiple agencies including the accommodation provider, Mental Health Teams and Substance Misuse Services.

All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role

This a 37 hour a week post with shifts from 8am till 8pm Monday to Friday with a shift allowance. On a fixed term basis for 2 years.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Working with people who've experienced rough sleeping is a team effort and we are looking for individuals who recognise the impact that many complex needs and experiences can have on people who have been homeless.
