Night Porter – Temporary Homelessness Accommodation
This opportunity as a
Night Porter at our new 28‑bed temporary accommodation service is ideal for someone who takes pride in keeping people safe, maintaining a calm and secure environment, and supporting a service that helps single adults move on from homelessness into stable housing.
You’ll be a reassuring presence overnight, ensuring the building is safe, incidents are recorded, and residents feel supported during quieter hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Booking in residents and visitors, ensuring accurate records of who enters and leaves the building.
- Logging incidents such as complaints, risks, accidents or anti‑social behaviour in line with policy.
- Maintaining detailed daily logs and handing over information clearly to daytime colleagues.
- Conducting regular security and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting and general site safety.
- Completing weekly flat health and safety checks as part of the wider team rota.
- Monitoring resident wellbeing overnight and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Supporting residents with immediate practical needs where appropriate, while maintaining professional boundaries.
- Ensuring the building remains clean, safe and secure throughout the night.
- Using our recording system (Sure) to record essential information (training provided).
About You
- Compassionate, calm and resilient, with a genuine desire to help others feel safe and supported.
- Able to communicate clearly, de‑escalate situations and maintain a professional, friendly approach.
- Comfortable working independently and using initiative during quieter periods.
- Confident in reading, following and recording information accurately.
- Competent with basic IT tasks such as sending emails and updating records.
- Understands the importance of confidentiality, boundaries and safeguarding.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic and commitment to modelling our values.
Working Hours
31 hrs pw over a 4 week rolling rota. Weekends and bank holidays included
10.5 hour shifts 20:45 - 7:15am
