About Us
Established in 1986, Soup Kitchen London supports the homeless, elderly, lonely and vulnerable by offering free meals, clothing, mental health support and a sense of belonging. We serve over 200 guests each day with dignity, compassion and professionalism. In 2019, we launched Europe’s first on-site mental health drop-in clinic within a soup kitchen.
The Role
We’re looking for a warm, confident and highly organised Volunteer Lead to join our team. As the first point of contact for our guests and volunteers during evening service, you’ll set the tone for a safe, respectful and structured environment. This role is ideal for someone empathetic yet firm, who enjoys working with diverse people and understands the importance of being the face of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Welcome guests and volunteers with professionalism and warmth
- Maintain a calm, safe and structured atmosphere at Soup Kitchen London
- Support and delegate tasks to a small team of volunteers (often from the corporate world)
- Work closely with the kitchen team to ensure smooth service delivery
- De-escalate challenging situations respectfully and in line with safeguarding protocols
- Represent Soup Kitchen London with integrity at all times
Who We’re Looking For
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Experience working with vulnerable people (homelessness, mental health, addiction) is a plus
- Ability to remain calm, assertive and compassionate in complicated or unpredictable situations
- A professional presence, especially when interacting with corporate partners and volunteers
- Punctuality, reliability and a genuine passion for social impact

- Hours: Weekdays from 16:30 – 19:30 (Specific days to be determined). 9 hours weekly
- Pay: £14.80 per hour.
- Location: Central London (W1).
