Job Purpose
To support the Housing Solutions Team Manager in preventing and relieving homelessness by assessing housing needs, determining statutory duties, and delivering high-quality, customer-focused housing solutions. The role aims to reduce the use of temporary accommodation through effective casework, partnership working, and compliance with housing legislation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, investigate, and verify applications under Part VI (Housing Register) and Part VII (Homelessness) of the Housing Act 1996.
- Determine eligibility, housing need, and statutory duties under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, including preparing Personal Housing Plans.
- Provide housing advice, triage, and case management for households threatened with or experiencing homelessness.
- Work with vulnerable clients, including single homeless individuals with complex needs, and arrange appropriate support and accommodation pathways.
- Liaise with landlords, hostels, support agencies, statutory bodies, and third-sector partners to secure sustainable housing outcomes.
- Reduce reliance on temporary accommodation through prevention-focused and innovative housing options.
- Manage enquiries, complaints, and correspondence, including preparing information for legal proceedings when required.
- Conduct home visits, risk assessments, referrals, and maintain accurate electronic case records.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant housing legislation, safeguarding duties, equality standards, and health and safety policies.
Qualifications & Knowledge
- A-Level education or equivalent (degree or professional housing qualification desirable).
- Knowledge of Central London housing issues, access to social housing, and local housing policy.
- Understanding of housing legislation, including Lettings, Homelessness, Housing Acts, security of tenure, and private tenants' rights.
- Awareness of local authority housing initiatives and available benefits, services, and support.
Experience & Skills
- Experience providing public-facing housing or advice services.
- Experience working with equality, diversity, and vulnerable service users.
- Strong casework, record-keeping, and performance management skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and advocacy skills, including report writing.
- Ability to analyse complex information, work to deadlines, and deliver practical, customer-focused solutions.
