We are looking for a Support Worker to join our team. Emmaus Bristol is a local charity, working to help people out of homelessness. The work we do here changes lives. The role of the Support Worker is to provide high-quality, person-centred support to companions (the formerly homeless people we work with) and residents, enabling them to improve their wellbeing, develop skills, sustain accommodation, and progress towards independence, while working in line with Emmaus Bristol’s values, policies, and trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches. Salary: 27000- 29000 DOE
Hours : 7.5 hour day (breaks unpaid) can be worked flexi-time between 8am to 6pm, Monday to Friday
There is an on-call rota which necessitates having a work phone on outside of working hours for a week at a time, usually 1 in 6-8 weeks. This is remunerated.
Key duties
- Provide hands-on, day-to-day support and coaching to companions, including problem solving, conflict resolution and mediation where required.
- Maintain a caseload of approximately 10 companions, delivering regular, person-centred support sessions using trauma-informed, strengths-based and solution-focused methods.
- Support the personal, professional and skill development of companions, other residents and non-residential volunteers, helping them build life skills, work skills and confidence, for example working alongside them in the social the social enterprises, supporting workplace behaviour, motivation and readiness for future employment and move on.
Day to day support tasks
- Support the development and delivery of in-house social, wellbeing and therapeutic activities.
- Liaise with external agencies—such as mental health support, substance misuse, housing, health and statutory services—to support companion wellbeing and positive outcomes.
- Conduct regular visits to enterprise and work sites to check on companions and offer in-work support.
- Carry out room inspections, property checks and compliance tasks, in collaboration with colleagues.
- Work as directed by the Support Manager and Head of Buildings to ensure companions’ accommodation meets health & safety requirements and are safe, secure and suitable.
- Participate in the on-call rota shared by the Emmaus Bristol team (approximately every 6-8 weeks).
Planning and onboarding
- Assist with the referral process and onboarding of new companions, including screening, interviewing, risk assessments.
- Work with the Support Manager and collaborate with the social enterprise team to create and maintain effective weekly rotas for companions.
Record keeping and administration
- Complete needs assessments, risk assessments, support plans, licence agreements and all relevant documents for companions.
- Ensure all documentation is kept updated and compliant with Supported Housing Act requirements.
- Process Housing Benefit claims and any other benefit-related applications or paperwork.
- Record all interactions and casework using the Inform CRM system.
- Use tools such as the Home Star to assess progress, monitor wellbeing and update support plans.
General tasks - applicable to all Emmaus Bristol employees
- Follow all relevant Policies and Procedures, including the Health & Safety, escalating to managers where necessary.
- Attend training courses relevant to the development of the role.
- Take part in lock-up procedures as required.
- Attend and participate in team meetings, community meetings, 1:1s and appraisals.
- As requested by your line manager, carry out any other duties or general tasks and hours of work as may be reasonably required within the scope and purpose of the job.
