Post: Night Support Worker
Reporting to: Service Manager
Line Management Responsibility: Security Team at HH and TP and volunteers on shift
Hours per week:
- Shifts between Monday to Thursday 6:45pm – 8:15am (13.5 hour shift)
- Friday 6:45pm – 9:15am (14.5 hour shift)
- Saturday 6:45pm – 10:15am (15.5 hour shift)
- Sunday 4:45pm – 8:15am (15.5 hour shift)
Salary/ Hourly rate: £14.50 per hour
Overall purpose of the job
- To manage practical aspects of the running of The Hub when on shift including monitoring the other properties via CCTV.
- To assess the needs of homeless individuals approaching CHESS for support and help the team identify suitable applicants.
- To manage entry, exit and risk for service users in the Shelter.
- To link/ refer clients to appropriate specialist services outside of CHESS.
- Handle enquiries and incidents from other CHESS accommodation and escalate if required.
Main duties & responsibilities
· To take responsibility for the practical running of the shelter when on shift and provide an effective handover to day staff.
· Hourly checks of the interior building and reporting any untoward behaviour.
· To manage entry, exit and risk for service users in the Shelter. This may involve breathalyser readings and handling difficult situations.
· Be a support for other CHESS sites, checking the CCTV throughout the night and being available if another site needs your support.
· To identify areas of need and ensure clients are referred/accessing appropriate help.
· If required undertake room checks and ensure health and safety measures are maintained in the facility for smooth and safe operations.
· To assist with practical aspects of CHESS accommodation operations including washing, sanitising and moves inside CHESS as necessary. This may involve lifting.
· To adhere to the code of conduct and policies set out by CHESS to ensure the safe provision of services to single Homeless people in Essex.
· Engage with the residents during the shift, facilitating groupwork/ activities in the evenings.
· To offer support to the residents within CHESS properties when required/ needed.
· Undertake support work during the shift.
· To work alongside, engage and direct volunteers.
· Engage with external partners both off and onsite.
· To be flexible to take on other shifts to cover other staff leave.
· Attend to all administrative duties related to the post.

· Ability to assess clients risks and needs and produce support pathways and plans.
· Competent at working with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
· Good knowledge of voluntary sector services and statutory rights of homeless people
· Ability to accurately record data.
· Networking and developing relationships with community agencies.
· Knowledge of health and safety requirement
· Full UK driving licence and ability to travel between CHESS sites
Desirable
· Previous charity experience and working with volunteers.
