Senior Support Worker Job Description & Job Specification
Description:
Unfortunately, we cannot offer this role to anyone overseas or far from our main office. UK applicants only.
WeCare Housing and Support Limited offers numerous services targeted towards vulnerable and struggling individuals in need of support and safeguarding. Our goal is to provide shelter, tenderness, and a safe space to those in difficult positions, and this extends to those struggling internally with mental health issues and learning disabilities.
We are looking to hire a Senior Support Worker who will be able to direct and lead our support staff team, helping them both on-shift and off-shift and reporting directly to the director. The role will still be working with residents on shift, in addition to administrative duties and responsibilities to support the director with running the homes.
It is essential that you have some experience in support work and if you have qualifications, such as a Disability Support Worker certificate for example, to support your application further. It will be especially desirable if you have supervisory or team leadership experience. You will also be required to complete a DBS check due to the nature of the job.
Above all, our main requirement is empathy and a drive to help those in less fortunate, vulnerable positions to be able to live their lives as happily and healthily as possible!
Roles:
Within the role, you must be able to commit to a rota which will be as flexible as possible within reason. You will be required to work Mondays to Fridays where scheduled, as well as evening shifts. You won't be required to work a night shift, however, you may need to work a weekend shift occasionally.
You will be asked to do the following (although, not limited to if needs be) daily tasks:
- Managing and supporting workers so they can perform their roles safely and to the best of their ability
- Supporting your manager to run your workplace according to standards and legislation
- Acting as a positive role model to colleagues
- Developing care plans that outline what care and support individuals need
- Leading team meetings and doing inductions, supervisions and appraisals
- Working in partnership with other professionals to ensure individuals get the support they need.
You will be working at a competitive wage in an environment where everyone treats each other like family. If anyone cares about respecting people, it's us!
SUPPORTED LIVING
POST TITLE: Senior Support Worker/Team Leader
ACCOUNTABLE: Service Manager
BASIC HOURS: Monday – Friday 9 am to 5 pm plus some weekends, On Call for Out of Hours and as the service requires.
You will enable the people we support to lead fulfilling lives based on their personal
support needs. You need to work to the standards set internally at WeCare and externally (for example, by the Care Quality Commission), doing all you can to make sure that the people we support and your colleagues come to no harm with the level of support they receive. You will achieve this by communicating with individuals and by following the underpinning principles of Person-Centred Active Support (PCAS):
· Make sure that you support people to be as involved as possible in every moment of their lives.
· Offering people opportunities to be involved as often as possible, in the way that best suits them, e.g. as little or as much as they like.
· Offering ‘just enough’ support to ensure people succeed.
· Ensuring that people you support make as many choices as possible, so they remain in control.
As we provide 24/7 support you need to be able to work shifts, including weekends, some nights and Bank Holidays. You will also be required to accompany people we support on holidays and attend training courses and other activities.
When on shift, your main duties will be to:
1. Support people with learning disabilities to the highest standard and in line with their support plan, cultural needs and wishes.
2. Support people with personal care if required, which may include toileting and bathing, in line with their support plan.
3. Support and encourage people to make choices and life decisions in line with the Mental Capacity Act requirements.
4. Assist and encourage people to engage in everyday home, social, leisure and work
activities, according to the individual’s choice.
5. Support people with their health needs as required, e.g. taking medication and attending doctor’s appointments.
6. Keep accurate and up-to-date records.
7. Support people with their finances, where necessary, and in line with WeCare guidelines
8. Promote health, safety and well-being of the people we support.
9. Work positively with colleagues, families and external organisations and professionals.
10. Look for opportunities to use personalised technology to increase people’s
independence.
11. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
12. Improve the support provided by discussing any new ideas.
