At Crossroads Housing and Support we believe everyone deserves more than a roof over their head. We provide safe, fully furnished homes for adults facing homelessness, and we work side by side with them to build a better future. As a Support Worker you will help people in your own city move into work, education and a home of their own, and you will know you were part of the reason they got there.

What you will do

  • Support a caseload of 20 to 25 residents across our Birmingham properties, giving each one hour of one to one support every week.
  • Help residents follow their support plans and reach their goals, such as finding work or securing their own home.
  • Keep homes safe and welcoming through regular property and safety checks.
  • Resolve household issues and encourage a positive living environment.
  • Keep accurate support notes on our systems and report progress to your manager.
  • Be the first point of contact for your residents, including by phone.
  • Bring ideas to improve how we work. We listen.

Essential

  • At least one year's experience working with vulnerable adults, for example in supported housing, hostels, care, mental health, substance misuse or youth work.
  • A full UK driving licence and your own car, able to drive in Birmingham's Clean Air Zone. The role involves travelling between our properties every day.
  • The right to work in the UK.
  • Confidence with a smartphone and basic IT. Full training is given on our systems.
  • Strong written and spoken English.
  • Compassion, patience and a real desire to help people.

Desirable

  • An NVQ or Diploma at Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care, or willingness to work towards one.
  • Knowledge of Birmingham and its local support services.

We welcome applicants from every background and every age group. Your life experience is valued here.

What we offer

  • No evenings or weekends, ever.
  • Laptop and work phone provided, and mileage paid at 45p per mile for approved work travel, so you are never out of pocket.
  • A free monthly counselling session, because this work matters and so do you.
  • £13.00 per hour, with annual pay reviews.
  • 28 days' holiday including bank holidays, rising with service.
  • Company pension.
  • One office day a week for admin (full time).
  • Quarterly training and CPD, with a clear path to Senior Support Worker. We promote from within.
  • A friendly team that celebrates wins and has each other's backs.

Safer recruitment

Crossroads is committed to safeguarding the people we house. This role is subject to an enhanced DBS check, two satisfactory references (one from your most recent employer), a full employment history with any gaps explained, and right to work checks.
