The Role
Help people overcome barriers and build their confidence to move into meaningful paid work. DHI is looking for a motivated and compassionate Employment Specialist to support people who have experienced problematic alcohol or substance use across Bath and North East Somerset.
You will work directly with people receiving drug and alcohol treatment, helping them identify their strengths, prepare for work and find roles that match their goals. You will provide practical, personalised support at every stage, from exploring options and completing applications to preparing for interviews and settling into employment.
This is an active, community-based role. You will build trusted relationships with clients, local employers and partner services, and seek out suitable employment opportunities. Your encouragement, organisation and problem-solving skills will help people make lasting changes and support their recovery.
You do not need previous experience as an Employment Specialist. Full training, on-the-job support and mentoring will be provided. We welcome applicants with transferable skills from backgrounds such as customer service, teaching, health and social care, the armed forces, criminal justice, coaching or other people-focused roles, as well as applicants with relevant lived experience.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Passionate about creating new and ongoing relationships with employers through face-to-face outreach.
- Ability to develop strong cooperative relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Desirable
- A driving licence and access to a vehicle for work travel. We still welcome your application if you can travel reliably around the service area by other means.
Perks and benefits
- 26 days’ annual leave, increasing to 31 days with service.
- Paid bank holidays on a pro rata basis.
- Company pension scheme.
- Employee Assistance Programme.
- Cycle Scheme.
- Charity Worker Discounts.
- Full role-specific training, on-the-job support and team mentoring.
