Service Manager: Recovery

For women leaders with experience in drug and alcohol recovery, detox, residential rehabilitation, complex needs, domestic abuse and VAWG services
Location: Burnley, on site

Hours: Full time, including participation in an on call rota
Contract: Permanent

Please note, this role is based on site only. Due to the nature of our Refuges and Outreach services, it is essential that our teams are present and accessible, enabling us to provide safe, responsive and high quality support to those who need us most.

This post is open to women only as permitted under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010

About the service

Safenet delivers specialist services across Lancashire and Greater Manchester, supporting adults and children affected by domestic abuse through safe accommodation, community services, recovery support and prevention work.

At Jane’s Place, many of the women we support have been excluded elsewhere. We do not see complexity as a problem to manage. We understand it as a response to trauma, and we believe recovery happens through safety, trust, healthy relationships, community and hope.

This service sits at the intersection of domestic abuse, drug and alcohol recovery, mental health and physical health needs. We are proud to offer a psychologically informed and trauma responsive environment where women are supported to rebuild their lives on their own terms.

We are particularly keen to hear from women who have led or managed drug and alcohol services, complex needs accommodation, women’s services or psychologically informed environments. You do not need to have managed a refuge before, but you must understand the impact of domestic abuse, coercive control and violence against women and girls, and be committed to feminist and survivor informed practice.

About the role

As Service Manager, you will lead Jane’s Place and be accountable for the safe, effective and compassionate delivery of a 24 hour refuge service for women.

You will be a values led feminist leader who understands person centred recovery, trauma, risk and safeguarding. You will be able to balance clear expectations and accountability with warmth, curiosity and care.

This role is based at Jane’s Place, Burnely which is our specialist women only refuge providing 24 hour accommodation and support for women who are experiencing domestic abuse and who also want to address substance use, mental ill health or other physical health needs as part of their recovery journey.

The role will help shape and develop the recovery offer across Safenet services.

You will:

  • Lead and support a skilled refuge team working with women affected by domestic abuse, substance use, mental ill health and trauma
  • Oversee the safe delivery of a 24 hour residential service, including safeguarding, risk management, housing management and participation in an on call rota
  • Build strong partnerships with drug and alcohol services, detox and recovery providers, mental health services, criminal justice partners and local authorities
  • Create a culture of psychological safety, reflective practice and trauma informed, person centred support
  • Use feedback, lived experience insight and service data to shape and continually improve the support women receive

This is a hands on leadership role for someone who believes deeply in women’s capacity for change and recovery, even in the most challenging circumstances. You will understand that recovery is personal, relational and not always linear, and that effective support must be led by the woman herself, at her own pace, with dignity, choice and hope.

We’re looking for someone who…

We welcome applicants from a range of relevant backgrounds. Direct refuge experience is not essential, but you do need to bring credibility, confidence and compassion from services supporting women, people in recovery or people experiencing trauma and complex needs.

You might come from:

  • Recovery homes, detox centres, residential rehabilitation, drug and alcohol services or addiction recovery services
  • Trauma-informed women’s services, domestic abuse services or VAWG services
  • Mental health services, psychologically informed environments, supported housing or accommodation for people with complex needs

You will bring:

  • Experience of leading and developing staff teams in high pressure, emotionally demanding services
  • A strong understanding of domestic abuse, coercive control, violence against women and girls, recovery and trauma
  • Knowledge of person centred recovery, harm reduction, relapse prevention, trauma informed practice and systems change
  • Confidence managing safeguarding, risk and complex decision making in a residential or community setting
  • The ability to hold boundaries without losing humanity, and a clear commitment to women only, feminist and survivor informed practice
