WWIN is a specialist domestic abuse service, providing accommodation and community-based services, aimed at supporting women and children at risk of, or suffering, from violence and abuse across Wearside.
Our ambition is to create an environment where domestic abuse is a thing of the past. By providing high quality, compassionate and trusted support services, we strive to generate hope, by transforming the lives for individuals, communities and wider society.
Our Outreach, Advocacy and Support Service is a team made up of IDVAs, caseworkers and those supporting women and children in our safe and supported accommodation provision. We work with anyone whose lives are harmed by domestic abuse, and work closely with our partner agencies to ensure victims/survivors of domestic violence receive a high quality standard of service.
Our expert team provides helpline support, and advocacy support including specialised IDVAs for women with multiple disadvantages and young women. We also provide one to one and group counselling to survivors as well as short term support to survivor’s family and friends. It is an inclusive service and support all ages, disabilities, sexualities, ethnicities, and religions.
Who We Are Looking For
We are currently recruiting for Domestic Abuse Advocates and IDVA's to join our Outreach, Assessment and Safe Accommodation teams.
We are looking for passionate, skilled individuals who are committed to supporting survivors of domestic abuse and making a real difference in their lives.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a pro-active empowering approach to the safety, health and wellbeing of all victims of domestic abuse across WWIN’s Service. This involves a holistic assessment for survivors considering the risk and support to their wider family in the community and our specialist accommodation.
Responsibilities
- Complete initial and ongoing holistic assessments and make safe decisions in the interests of all survivors of domestic abuse particularly women and children.
- Empower service users to identify and achieve their goals.
- Support with budgeting, finances including benefits, life and parenting skills.
- Advocate for women with external agencies and promote social justice.
- Establish and maintain good working relationships with Local Authorities, Children's Social Care and any other relevant voluntary and statutory agencies.
- Support Women with NRPF status (No Recourse to Public Funds) in navigating the legal landscape.
- Adhering to all organisational policy and procedures.
- Ensure that the health, wellbeing and rights of women and children are promoted throughout service delivery.
- Maintain accurate records regarding all service users on WWIN’s client management system following our case management policy.
- Introduce new clients to WWIN’s services, explaining policies, procedure, house expectations etc. Ensuring residents are informed of available services both internally and externally.
- Ensure regular health and safety checks are carried out.
- Promote strong positive internal and external relations.
- Demonstrable experience of working with vulnerable people, particularly with women affected by domestic and sexual abuse and comfortable working in an environment where we work with these experiences every day.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation skills.

- Ability to effectively work with people regardless of their ethnic, cultural, social backgrounds, their gender, age, religious belief, disability, and sexual orientation.
- Ability to work as part of a team with other staff, volunteers and partner agencies, sharing information and experience.
- Ability to communicate with, and relate to, women from all backgrounds.
- Non-directive, empowering approach to work.
- Ability to work on own initiative.
- An understanding of monitoring and reporting, and the importance of accurate and effective case notes.
- A good understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- A commitment to safeguarding adults and children and working within safeguarding procedures.
It would be useful, but not essential if you also have:
- Knowledge of substance misuse, mental health and related services and an understanding of issues related to substance misuse and mental health.
- Experience of working with people with complex needs.
- Housing-related knowledge and understanding.
- Understanding of the needs of children exposed to trauma.
- Knowledge of welfare benefits.
- Experience supporting women and children during the perinatal period.
- Understanding of legal system for women with NRPF (No Recourse to Public Funds)
- Knowledge of the effects of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
- Experience of multi-agency liaison.
