Senior Intensive Support Worker - Supporting Offenders Across Reading and Hampshire, including Isle of Wight

We strive to reduce re-offending, tackle substance misuse, address domestic abuse, support mental health and wellbeing, and break intergenerational cycles of disadvantage through intensive, person-centred support.
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Support Worker to join our award‑winning Intensive Support Service. You will work with male clients aged 18–24 and 45+ who present with a range of risks and complex needs, including:
· Offending behaviour
· Individuals with substance misuse challenges
· Clients with mental health needs
· Individuals with a history of serious offences, including those subject to MAPPA
You will provide intensive 1:1 community outreach support for clients preparing for release from prison or reporting to probation across the South-Central Probation area.
The role requires a dynamic, compassionate, and solution‑focused professional with extensive experience in community support work and a proven ability to build trust with clients who may lead complex lifestyles.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Client Support & Case Management
· Manage a caseload of clients with multiple and complex needs across Reading, Hampshire, and the Isle of Wight.
· Build positive, trusting, and professional relationships with individuals who may be high‑risk or require intensive support.
· Complete person‑centred assessments, action plans, risk assessments, and case notes.
· Deliver bespoke 1:1 support, empowering clients to make positive, sustainable changes.
· Support clients transitioning from prison and maintain contact should they return to custody.
· Assist clients with benefit claims, appointments, and access to accommodation.
· Help clients stabilise and prepare for education, training, or employment opportunities.
Multi‑Agency & Partnership Work
· Collaborate with external agencies to complement and enhance client interventions.
· Signpost clients to appropriate internal and external services to remove barriers to progress.
· Build strong networks with local organisations and represent Browns Community Services at meetings and events.
Service Support
· Support the Service Manager/Coordinator in monitoring incoming referrals, prioritising workload, and meeting deadlines.
· Produce weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports as required.
Standards, Reporting & Compliance
· Evidence client progress using the Progression Chart database.
· Maintain high-quality standards, data protection compliance, and information security.
· Meet deadlines within a high-pressure environment while upholding organisational values of performance, innovation, responsibility, respect, and integrity.
REQUIRENMENTS & SKILLS
Essential
· NVQ Level 2 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent), or willingness to undertake training.
· Minimum 3 years’ experience supporting clients with complex needs in the community (offending, homelessness, substance misuse).
· Full UK driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
· Willingness to work flexibly, including occasional evenings and weekends
· Ability to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm, and adaptability.
HEALTH, SAFETY & SAFEGUARDING RESPONSBILITIES
· Comply with Browns Community Services’ Health & Safety policies, reporting all incidents or hazards.
· Follow Safeguarding Children & Vulnerable Adults policies and report concerns immediately.
· Adhere to Safer Recruitment & Selection procedures.
· Undertake safeguarding training as required.
· Complete an enhanced DBS check and maintain annual update service membership (if required for the role).
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Comply with all organisational policies and procedures.
· Commit to Continuous Professional Development, attending training as required.
· Carry out any other duties appropriate to the role and level.
It is a requirement for this post that an enhanced DBS disclosure check will be undertaken for the successful candidate.
