Are you passionate about supporting young people to stay safe, secure stable housing, and build brighter futures?
Our Way Leeds (OWL) is looking for a compassionate, adaptable and motivated Prevention Worker to join our dynamic Prevention & Hub Team.
OWL is part of the Young People’s Housing Related Support Service delivered by a consortium of organisations - GIPSIL (lead provider), Foundation and Turning Lives Around. Together, we support young people aged 16 to 25, including care leavers, young families, couples, and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
Key Responsibilities
As a Prevention Worker, you will play a vital role in preventing youth homelessness.
You will:
- Hold a caseload of young people and complete strengths-based needs and risk assessments.
- Deliver timely, flexible and person-centred support to prevent eviction, tenancy breakdown, and family conflict.
- Support young people to remain at home where safe and appropriate, through mediation, crisis intervention and family-focused working.
- Offer clear advice on independent living and explore all housing options, including bidding and applications.
- Respond quickly to crisis situations and provide practical and emotional support.
- Work restoratively and in a trauma-informed way to help young people develop independence and confidence.
- Build positive, professional relationships with external partners, including Children’s Social Work Services, Police, Housing Options and schools/colleges.
- Maintain high-quality case records and safeguarding documentation.
- Promote the values of Compassion, Courage and Collaboration in all aspects of your work.
What We’re Looking For
Essential qualities include:
- Experience working with vulnerable young people, adults, or children (paid or voluntary).
- Ability to adapt and contingency plan when interventions don’t go as intended.
- Confidence in managing conflict and challenging behaviour.
- Strong safeguarding awareness and ability to keep young people safe from harm.
- Experience supporting people in crisis and developing rapid problem-solving responses.
- Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and with external agencies.
- Commitment to organisational values and professional boundaries.
- NVQ Level 3 (or willingness to work toward a relevant qualification).
What We Offer
- A supportive, reflective and collaborative team culture
- Regular supervision and ongoing training (Safeguarding, Early Help, First Aid, Health & Safety and more)
- Opportunities to develop your skills, including working with volunteers, apprentices and student placements
- A chance to meaningfully impact the lives and futures of young people in Leeds
If you’re passionate about preventing homelessness and supporting young people to thrive, we’d love to hear from you.
