We’re looking for a highly motivated individual with an interest in homelessness and housing issues to join our busy Housing Options team. In this role, you’ll play a key part in helping to address rough sleeping in Norwich, working directly with those in need to provide sustainable housing solutions.
This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in people’s lives while gaining valuable experience in a fast-paced and supportive environment.
This post, based at City Hall, is available on a fixed term contract until April 2026.
Job Description
We are seeking a housing assessment officer to carry out specific duties relating to the rapid assessment and reconnection of the high number of rough sleeper and homeless clients from other areas approaching this council for assistance.
Responsibilities
The post-holder will work within the Housing Act and Homelessness Reduction Act, providing a specialist frontline service to rough sleeper and homeless clients; sourcing accommodation, safeguarding, carrying out investigations under law to determine whether the council has a housing duty to the client and, where appropriate, reconnecting clients to accommodation in their local area. This is a challenging role assisting vulnerable clients in often difficult circumstances and applicants will need to be comfortable dealing with a complex client group.
Skills Required
We would like to hear from you if you would enjoy working with people to help them resolve their housing problems. You will need to be able to build positive action plans with complex individuals and be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of need and risk in relation to rough sleeping. You must have excellent negotiation skills and the ability to deal sensitively with clients in difficult and often pressurised circumstances.
Key to success in this role is being able to work constructively and creatively to help clients address their housing issues. Training on relevant areas of housing and related law will be provided.
Educational Requirements
Applicants should be educated to a minimum A level standard.
