Job Description: Day Support Worker – Casual role
Reports to: DAA Manager
York Road Project supports people experiencing homelessness in Woking and the surrounding boroughs. Our shelter operates 24 hours a day and is a direct access facility for those who are homeless in the local area. The service comprises of 10 single bedrooms, offering temporary accommodation to anyone over the age of 18.
The role of a day support worker is to create a welcoming environment at the shelter so that those living there feel safe and supported during their stay with us. The responsibilities of the day support worker will be varied, responding to the needs of the clients as they arise. This will include, but not be limited to, supporting clients to work on a person-centred support plan that is continually reviewed to ensure it changes with the client’s needs. To support clients with planning and cooking their own meals, participating in recreational activities with clients, supporting clients with important tasks such as booking a GP appointment or logging into their Universal Credit account. You will be allocated a number of clients that will be supported by you as their keyworker, referring them to other support providers were applicable and signposting to other services they may need such as drug and alcohol support, debt management and more. As part of the role there will be general cleaning tasks, such as stock taking, cleaning rooms when clients move and mediating conflicts between clients if they arise whilst they live at the direct access service, supporting clients in crisis, and contacting emergency services when necessary, and detailed record keeping.
Shift pattern is covering staff annual leave and sickness, you will be contacted at the beginning of each rota for shifts available
Monday – Friday shifts are 8-4 and 10- 6
Weekend shifts are 8am- 8pm and 10:30am -10:30 pm.
There will be an element of lone working at the service.
Client Support
- Complete full needs assessments, risk assessments and risk management plans with all new clients.
- Support clients holistically through general personalised support plans, individually tailored to the needs of the client and reviewed monthly with the client.
- Support meetings weekly with client ensuring that they have a GP, bank account and benefits applied for in the first 4 weeks of moving into the service.
- Help clients to find and engage in meaningful activities.
- Plan workshops and provide at least one workshop a week at the service that clients would find useful such as cooking and budgeting.
- Identify and support clients to access appropriate longer-term accommodation.
- Ensure that all clients are adhering to the standards of cleaning and sharing of the communal resources that we require as part of our code of conduct.
- Deal with any disputes or other reasonable eventualities as they arise.
- Ensure that clients understand and adhere to their Licence Agreements and the code of conduct.
- Complete daily welfare checks of all rooms ensuring that they are clean and that the fridges, kettles and TVs are in good working order.
- Organise and assist with the laundry and cleaning of premises inside and out.
- Support clients to pay their rent on time and record appropriately on Inform.
- Occasionally support the Outreach Team to attend rough sleeper walks around Woking to find and support anyone sleeping rough.
- Ensure fortnightly ‘House meetings’ are held at the DAA for all clients to attend and feedback what works and what could be better. Minutes of meetings should be taken and then sent out to both staff and clients and actions completed before the next meeting.
Administrative Tasks
- Complete housing benefit paperwork with clients on arrival.
- Ensure correct records are maintained on our online Salesforce system.
- Answer the phone and deal with general enquiries.
- Complete a handover for day staff every shift.
- Complete stock takes of food, wash and bedding items on a weekly basis and keep this updated on the shared drive.
General Tasks
- Be responsible for the security and safety of the building.
- Ensure that all Organisational Policies and Procedures are read, signed, and followed.
- To be on time for work.
- To undertake any tasks as identified by your manager, as and when required, to meet the needs of the Organisation.
- Liaise with other agencies locally and nationally as appropriate.
Meetings
- Attend a full team meeting bi-monthly.
- Attend regular support meetings with your manager
Training
· As part of your role with us you will be required to undertake internal and external training which may be away from the normal place of work and outside of normal working hours.
Essential Skills
- An excellent command of English (oral and written)
- Experience of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Pay: £13.68 per hour
