JOB TITLE Development Officer (4 Days/30 hours a week)
ORGANISATION Peter Le Marchant Trust.

RESPONCSIBLE TO Chief Executive Officer (CEO)
ROLE SUMMARY The Peter Le Marchant Trust is one of the longest serving and busiest canal boat charities in the UK. The charity was founded in 1976 to provide day trips and holidays on accessible canal boats for people living with physical disabilities, older people, people living in relative poverty and young people primarily from marginalised communities.
In a typical year we will serve over 5,500 passengers and provide over 320 trips, running a seven day a week service. We have a staff team of 1 full-time CEO and a part-time administrator and workshop coordinator. Importantly we have over 130 dedicated volunteers who skipper and crew our boats, a workshop team who maintain our boats and a gardening team who maintain our gardens.
The Development Officer will report directly to the CEO and work across the charity writing grant applications, fundraising, implementing projects and coordinating volunteers. You will be joining a highly motivated charity that makes a big impact in the local community. This is a great opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of the people who use our charity and help us to deliver meaningful outcomes for them. As well as supporting us in expanding the key services and projects we implement.
We’re looking for a dynamic self-starter, who’s an excellent communicator, with an open-minded attitude, and a welcoming personality, who enjoys working and getting on with a diverse array of people. Ideally you will have experience of fundraising in the voluntary or charitable sector.

1. Projects & Profile
- To plan and deliver the Trust’s innovative Health and Wellbeing programme.
- To plan and deliver the Trust’s Seasonal trip programme.
- To support the office and CEO in organising key events and work programmes.
- Engaging with beneficiaries, building relationships with stakeholders, and promoting the charity's mission.
- To support and assist the CEO with partnership working
- To support the Trusts Marketing, Communication and Promotion work programmes.
2. Fundraising and Grants
- To create, maintain and expand a database of supporters, trusts, foundations and grant giving organisations
- To establish a programme of applications to trusts, foundations and grant giving organisations for funds
- With the CEO to develop and implement a programme of business and corporate contacts, sponsorship and activities.
- To identify and work on new initiatives for fundraising
- To control and monitor the charities Gift Aid register 3. General
To liaise with the CEO, Administrator & Operations Coordinator, to cover office arrangements. Managing budgets, handling paperwork, and providing administrative support to staff and volunteers. With the CEO support the trust Volunteer Management programme Maintain the Trust’s website, and internal databases, where required. To support the charity’s boat booking system To develop the charity’s shop initiative to encourage income Work closely with CEO and Trust staff on projects, initiatives and attend staff meetings. Other Duties
Any other duties as may be requested from time to time by the CEO. Ensure that all activities are compliant with law, best practice and the charity’s policies and procedures. Travel within the UK as well as attend events and meetings outside of normal working hours as required As a member of the team to conduct yourself and work and self to a high standard of professionalism and timeliness, being responsible and polite with all stakeholders. To be collaborative with, and considerate and supportive of, charity colleagues as we work together to meet the common goal of delivering the charity’s strategy to maximum impact.
