Our client, an environmental charity has an exciting vacancy for a Head of Leadership and Learning Operations to design and deliver a word class leadership development offer and lead their Operational L&D team.
This role is a vital expression of the charity's People Statement, ensuring their learners know that this is a place where they can thrive, feel proud of the work they do, and be supported to be themselves.
This role will be responsible for developing the next stage of the charity's leadership development offer. An experienced leadership learning professional at senior and C-suite level, the post-holder will design, oversee and deliver a leadership offer for the organisation which supports their core aims of embracing diversity, leading with their values and enterprise leadership.
This role reports to the Head of Learning & Organisational Development and is part of the Learning leadership team which also include two L&OD Consultants. This role will additionally directly manage the L&D Operations management team of 3 and lead the wider team of 16. The team provides the learning offer for the workforce of 2500 staff and 13000 volunteers.
Having recently redesigned the standard operating procedures for the department the charity's learning has become impactful, performance focused, blended and award-winning and they are now looking for someone to finish embedding these new ways of working and oversee the pipeline of development and delivery. Working closely with stakeholders and other learning teams in Volunteering, EDI, H&S and conservation teams this role-holder will further establish the L&D department’s reputation within the society.
The role includes:
- Create a learning strategy for the leadership development offer
- Delivering parts of the offer including workshops and coaching
- Sourcing external providers and networking and partnering with other charitable organisations
- Overseeing the pipeline for a wider learning offer
- Embedding a consistent working practice within L&D
- Managing a centralised learning budget for the organisation
- Promoting good learning practice supporting our Values and learning culture
- Attending Portfolio Boards to gather strategic learning needs and, along with the Head of L&OD, prioritise and oversee solutions
- Contribute to the wider leadership of the People Directorate
- Being responsible for developing the L&OD team's learning skills and capability
- Contributing to the L&OD leadership team’s aims of a healthy learning and workforce culture
- The post holder will manage a team of 3 L&D Managers and matrix manage 3 other L&D Managers
Essential skills and experience:
- Experience in delivering leadership development interventions to senior leaders in large organisations
- Experience in building learning programmes and strategies that meet the learning needs of a large and complex organisation
- Applicants must be experienced in applying learning and development theory into practice
- Experience in managing learning teams and learning pipelines
- Effective influencing skills with the ability to explain and discuss concepts and ideas with a range of stakeholders
- Excellent communication (both verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
- A commitment to establishing and maintaining effective and productive relationships with peers, colleagues, and senior managers from across the organisation
- A qualification in learning and development or equivalent experience is essential
- Experience of designing and delivering leadership development up to the C-Suite level in a dynamic, blended and impactful way
- Research and analysis skills to understand, conceptualise, and interpret insight
Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:
- Experience in the charitable sector or nature-based organisations
- Experience in managing team managers
- Coaching and mentoring
- Excellent facilitation skills
