We help vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037.
Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.
Centrepoint operates a hybrid working model, however this post will require you to be on sight full time, with the option for a protected working from home day following the probationary period.
We are looking for a Rough Sleepers Support Worker to join our hard-working Prevention team in Manchester.
As a Rough Sleepers Support Worker, you will be required to work closely with the young people, and should be an excellent communicator with an approachable nature. You must be capable of dealing with the young people in a calm and understanding manner. You will be required to provide housing options advice and support to young people who are sleeping rough or at high risk of sleeping rough. You may currently or previously worked as a Support Worker, either residentially or floating.

What you’ll be doing…
- Ensure that housing benefits and rental payments are promptly applied for and received by working closely with young people, Centrepoint colleagues, and local authority housing departments.
- Collaborate with colleagues to meet occupancy targets by ensuring properties are quickly re-let in excellent condition.
- Assist young people daily to settle into RSI properties, maximise their income, and access support services for education, employment, mental health, and substance misuse.
- Serve as the main link between Centrepoint’s property management function and services, ensuring that all maintenance and repair issues are addressed promptly and to expected standards.
- Work alongside service managers and support staff to maintain health and safety standards and ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and internal policies.
What we’d be looking for from you…
- An understanding of the needs of homeless young people & in particular rough sleepers
- A proven track record of engaging positively with vulnerable young people and young people presenting in crisis
- Previous experience working in housing or charity sectors, particularly in roles involving service delivery to young people.
- Proficiency in IT and general administrative tasks, including the use of systems to record client data, with a keen awareness of GDPR principles.
- Up-to-date knowledge of Housing Benefit and Universal Credit legislation, with the ability to guide colleagues and young people through benefit applications.
- Ability to present clear, factual reports both in writing and verbally, and to build strong working relationships with both internal and external partners.
- A strong commitment to Centrepoint’s safeguarding policies, equality, and diversity in all work, ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all young people and staff.
