About Our Team
Gateway, part of The Calico Group, provides support to people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
Our work includes supporting people who are sleeping rough, helping those facing housing crises, and assisting refugees and other vulnerable individuals to access safe and stable accommodation.

The Opportunity
What will you be doing?
As a Homelessness Support Worker, you'll play a vital role in supporting people who are sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness.
You'll work directly within the community, building trusting relationships with people who may have experienced significant challenges and barriers to engagement.
Your role will include:
- Carrying out outreach work to identify and engage with people sleeping rough
- Building positive relationships and encouraging individuals to access support services
- Supporting people to access accommodation and housing options
- Developing personalised support plans focused on achieving positive outcomes
- Working closely with local authorities, housing providers, health services and community organisations
- Advocating on behalf of clients and helping them navigate services
- Supporting individuals to move towards greater independence and stability

What We're Looking For
We believe in recruiting for potential as well as experience. Our ideal candidate will have:
- Experience supporting vulnerable, disadvantaged or socially excluded individuals
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to motivate and support people to achieve positive change
- Experience of working collaboratively with partner agencies and professionals
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of housing, homelessness, welfare or support services would be advantageous but is not essential
- A flexible and resilient approach to supporting individuals with complex needs
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as regular travel across Lancaster and surrounding areas is required
