Homeless Support and Recovery Worker

Location: Southampton

Salary: £25,947 – £26,305 per annum (£13.67 – £14.03/hr)

Contract: Permanent, up to 37 hours per week (Part-time considered)

About the Role & Impact

For over 50 years, The Society of St James (SSJ) has delivered person-centred housing and support to adults facing homelessness, substance use, and mental health challenges across Hampshire. We believe everyone has worth and are prepared to take calculated risks to support society’s most vulnerable individuals.

As a Support and Recovery Worker, you will provide practical, emotional, and consistent support to vulnerable adults.

Working closely with onsite teams and partner agencies, you’ll help individuals navigate complex trauma, manage substance misuse, and transition from emergency beds into stable, long-term housing. Your presence directly contributes to ending the cycle of homelessness.

What You’ll Need

• Relevant Interest or Experience: A genuine desire to support people facing homelessness, mental health challenges, and addiction.
• Resilience & Calmness: Confidence handling challenging behaviours with empathy, patience, and sound safeguarding practices.
• Practical Skills: Solid IT and organisational abilities to manage client notes, support plans, and administrative tasks.
• Values-Driven Approach: A deep commitment to equality, diversity, and trauma-informed care.
