Totton College is looking for a compassionate and reliable Healthcare Assistant to join our Student Experience team and support students with additional and complex needs.

About the role

Working as part of our Health, Care & Therapy Team, you’ll provide safe, person-centred healthcare support that enables students to access education, build independence and participate fully in college life.

You’ll work closely with teachers, Learning Support Assistants, the SEND and Safeguarding teams, families and external professionals.

What we’re looking for

You’ll have experience supporting people with additional needs or disabilities, ideally with experience of medication administration or healthcare support in an education or care setting. You’ll understand safeguarding and the importance of following healthcare plans, risk assessments and professional guidance accurately.

Experience in SEND, healthcare or care environments is desirable, as is experience supporting individuals with complex medical needs. Relevant training will be provided where required.

Duties include (but are not limited to):        

 Essential

  •  Experience supporting individuals with additional needs or disabilities.
  •   Experience supporting medication administration or healthcare needs in an educational or care setting.
  •   Understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and procedures when working with children, young people and vulnerable adults.
  •  Experience of following healthcare plans, risk assessments, policies and professional guidance accurately.
  • Experience of maintaining accurate records and documentation relating to health, care or support provision.

Desirable:

  • Experience of working within a care, healthcare or SEND Education environment or willing to be trained.
  • Experience of supporting students or individuals with complex medical needs, including PEG feeding or other delegated healthcare interventions.
  • Experience of monitoring healthcare equipment, maintaining stocks and supporting safe healthcare environments.
  • First Aid qualification or willingness to undertake training.

You will be part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team and will receive training relevant to the needs of the students you support.
