HOURS PER WEEK
7 hours per week, full year. Some flexibility in working
pattern; hours may be split across two days to support
access for young people outside school hours.
SALARY
Band 4, Scale Points 21–25: £32,044–£35,388 FTE
(£6,062–£6,695 actual salary for 7 hours per week),
depending on experience and qualifications.
LOCATION
Hybrid working, with delivery from home and/or the
Young People’s Centre, Brighton. Some onsite presence
is encouraged.

ABOUT E-MOTION
E-Motion is an accessible digital counselling service for young people aged 12–18 living in East Sussex. It
provides an alternative for young people who are unable or reluctant to access face-to-face counselling,
including those living in areas where options may be limited. Counselling is offered through written messaging,
instant messaging, telephone and video, according to suitability, preference and service capacity.
ROLE PURPOSE
To provide high-quality, accessible and professional digital counselling to young people and to contribute to
the safe and effective delivery of the wider E-Motion pathway, including supporting referrals and undertaking
initial assessments when required.

MAIN TASKS
• Provide high-quality digital counselling to young people aged 12–18 through written messaging, instant
messaging, telephone and video.
• Work with young people within agreed short-term counselling arrangements, maintaining appropriate
therapeutic boundaries and professional standards.
• Support the E-Motion referral pathway, including responding to referrals and undertaking initial
assessments when required, in line with service guidance.
• Assess and respond appropriately to risk and safeguarding concerns, following Impact’s safeguarding
procedures and seeking senior/DSL/clinical advice where required.
• Maintain accurate, timely and confidential client records and complete associated administration,
monitoring and evaluation requirements.
• Work collaboratively with the E-Motion Co-ordinator and wider CYP team to support appropriate allocation,
continuity and safe delivery of the service.
• Liaise with parents/carers and other professionals where appropriate, with due regard to consent,
confidentiality and safeguarding.
• Contribute to service development, quality improvement and the maintenance of relevant information and
resources for young people.
• Attend regular line-management supervision, external clinical supervision, team meetings and relevant
training and professional development.
• Work within the ethical framework of BACP or an equivalent professional body and all relevant Impact
policies and procedures, including safeguarding, confidentiality, data protection, diversity and inclusion,
and health and safety.
• Contribute positively to a supportive working environment and undertake other reasonable duties
appropriate to the nature and level of the role.

A recognised counselling qualification following a BACP-approved
course or equivalent.

Current BACP registration/accreditation, or equivalent
professional registration, with commitment to maintaining
professional requirements.

Post-qualifying counselling experience and experience of working
to agreed therapeutic contracts.

Experience of counselling or supporting children and young
people, with a strong understanding of the mental health and
social needs of young people.

Experience, knowledge and understanding of safeguarding, risk
and confidentiality in work with children and young people.

Ability to undertake initial assessments, make proportionate
judgements about suitability and risk, and recognise when senior
or clinical advice is required.

Highly developed interpersonal and written communication skills,
including the ability to build safe and trusting relationships
remotely.

Effective administration, digital literacy and accurate record
keeping.

Ability to work collaboratively as part of a small, part-time team
and to participate constructively in line management and clinical
