Job Role Summary
The Learning Support role delivers planned, person-centred sessions across Barford and
Old Sarum Development Centres, promoting safe, inclusive and outcome-focused practice.
The role supports adults to improve wellbeing, develop skills and progress into community
participation, volunteering, work placements and, where appropriate, paid employment.
The postholder contributes to the delivery of the 2026–27 Service Development Plan and
supports achievement of agreed KPI measures.

Operational Delivery and Learning Support
The Learning Support postholder delivers planned sessions and day-to-day support across
the development centres, helping to provide a safe, welcoming and well-organised
environment in which adults can achieve positive outcomes. The role supports delivery in
line with session plans, individual goals, safeguarding requirements and organisational
policies, while contributing to accurate records, communication with colleagues and
effective use of resources. The postholder works closely with the Tutor and Centre
management team to ensure support remains person-centred, responsive and aligned to
agreed service standards.

Wellbeing, Inclusion and Progression
The Learning Support postholder contributes to inclusive, strengths-based delivery that
promotes wellbeing, engagement, independence and progression. This includes supporting
adults with learning disabilities and mental health needs to take part in meaningful learning
activities, develop confidence and skills, and work towards next-step opportunities such as
community participation, volunteering, work placements and, where appropriate, paid
employment. The role supports a positive learning environment, makes reasonable
adjustments to aid participation, and helps ensure provision remains accessible, relevant
and responsive to individual needs.

Partnership Working, Safeguarding and Quality
The postholder maintains effective working relationships with colleagues, families, carers,
community partners and other professionals to support continuity, inclusion and
progression opportunities for the people who use the service. They promote safe practice
by remaining alert to safeguarding concerns, recording and reporting issues promptly, and
contributing to a culture that protects the safety, dignity, rights and wellbeing of adults with
learning disabilities and mental health needs. The role also supports accurate record
keeping, KPI information, feedback processes and continuous improvement activity to help
maintain service quality and demonstrate outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
Person-centred delivery: Support the delivery of safe, inclusive and outcome-focused
sessions in line with individual goals, learning plans and agreed service standards.
Wellbeing and engagement: Promote wellbeing, participation, confidence and independence
through positive, strengths-based support and meaningful activity.
Progression support: Encourage and support individuals to work towards progression
opportunities including community participation, volunteering, work placements and other
next steps.
Safeguarding and safety: Recognise, record and report safeguarding concerns promptly,
maintaining safe practice at all times in line with organisational procedures.
Partnership working: Work collaboratively with colleagues, families, carers, community
partners and professionals to support continuity and positive outcomes.
Recording and reporting: Maintain accurate records of attendance, engagement and
progression, contributing to KPI information, service reviews and audit activity.
Transport and access: Support arrangements that help people access activities safely and on
time, working with the wider team as required.
Service contribution: Contribute to a positive team culture, continuous improvement and
the effective day-to-day running of the development centres.
