Job Role Summary
The Development Centre Tutor is a lead tutor role and provides focused sessions within an
identified specialist area across the Barford and Old Sarum Development Centres, ensuring
safe, person-centred and outcome-focused delivery. The postholder will deliver sessions
within an identified specialist area such as creative activities, health and wellbeing, cookery,
horticulture, pottery, woodwork, digital skills and employability, or other agreed areas of
development centre provision. The role supports individuals to improve wellbeing, develop
skills and progress into community participation, volunteering, placements and, where
appropriate, paid work. The postholder plays a key role in implementing the 2026–27
Service Development Plan and supporting delivery against the agreed KPI scorecard.
Scope and Accountability
The Development Centre Tutor holds day-to-day responsibility for coordinating their
activity and creating individual person-centred plans to support progression tracking. The
role works closely with the management team to ensure consistency of delivery, effective
use of resources and accurate performance reporting. The Tutor also supports Learning
Support staff by providing clear session plans and guidance to ensure delivery is consistent
with agreed plans, quality standards and individual outcomes.

Person-Centred Delivery and Quality: Plan and deliver high-quality sessions
across the Development Centres that reflect individual goals, strengths and support
needs. Ensure delivery is inclusive, strengths-based and responsive, with reasonable
adjustments made to maximise engagement, wellbeing and participation. Maintain a
safe, welcoming environment at all times, and identify, manage and escalate
safeguarding concerns promptly in line with organisational policy and procedures.
Prepare clear session plans for Learning Support staff, ensuring they are well
briefed and equipped to deliver sessions consistently in line with agreed plans,
quality standards and individual outcomes.
Progression Pathways: Work with the management team to develop clear
progression pathways that support individuals to move from learning activities into
qualifications, volunteering opportunities, work placements and, where

appropriate, employment. Align session delivery with progression goals so that
learning contributes meaningfully to next-step outcomes.
Younger Adults (18+) Offer: Support the development and delivery of an ageappropriate offer for younger adults aged 18 and over. Deliver suitable content,
monitor engagement and attendance, and adapt provision in response to feedback,
data and emerging need to ensure the offer remains accessible, relevant and
effective.
Community Engagement and Activity Development: Support community
workshops and events in line with the agreed service plan, strengthening inclusion,
visibility and community connections. Ensure sessions are planned, delivered safely
and evaluated effectively, with attendance data, participant feedback and wellbeing
outcomes captured to evidence impact and inform future planning.
Partnership Working: Maintain effective working relationships with colleges, job
coaches, employers and community partners to support progression and widen
opportunities for the people who use the service.
Transport and Access: Support the management team and minibus driver with
routes and logistics in line with safety requirements and service priorities, ensuring
tutors are aware of transport arrangements that affect session delivery.
Data, KPIs and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of attendance, engagement
and progression, ensuring information is up to date and audit-ready. Support KPI
tracking and contribute to audits, reviews and service evaluations, providing timely
information to the Service Manager to support performance monitoring and
continuous improvement.
