An exciting new accommodation service in Sunderland will provide 7 bed spaces alongside intensive support and management services to people living multiple and complex needs.

Our new short term temporary accommodation service is commissioned by Sunderland City Council, providing 24/7 staffing to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness; many of these people will be vulnerable and may have complex support needs. As a  Complex Needs worker, you’ll work closely with residents developing a professional and trusting relationship, ensuring each resident gets the help they need to get on with their lives, gain confidence and independent living skills, connect and engage with local services, sustain accommodation, and move on to something more permanent.

You will recognise and identify resident’s multiple and often merging complex support needs, to form a comprehensive support plan to address needs and support residents to move forward. Complex needs are often difficult to identify and prioritise, needs include co-occurring disorders  , mental health, domestic violence, learning difficulties, substance abuse, dealing with trauma and more. You will work closely with the residents to help them develop the skills they need to live more independently, from basic budgeting, shopping, and cooking, to helping them navigate the benefits system and prepare to sustain a tenancy of their own.

Experience of working with people with complex needs is essential, what is also important is showing empathy, understanding and using listening skills. It’s a challenging job but an incredibly rewarding one.
