The Role:
We are looking to recruit enthusiastic, confident, flexible and proactive people who can help on a flexible basis cover our nationally recognised and award winning Rough Sleeper Team and work to eradicate rough sleeping across Thanet. We would like to hear from you if you have initiative and an empathetic approach that you can bring to the prevention of homelessness within Thanet. The role is to cover for operational demands, so a flexible approach is required.
This role sits within Thanet District Councils RISE team – a frontline service that gives housing advice and practical help to those faced with housing issues and homelessness. It is a fast paced environment that is at the forefront of delivering services to the public on a daily basis across Thanet.
Providing night support, your shift pattern will be on a 4 on and 4 off pattern.

About the role
Shelter Support Worker - You will primarily based at our 24 hour shelter in the Thanet area working with rough sleepers or those who are at risk of rough sleeping helping them to build resilience and the skills to maintain a home and rebuild their lives.
Working in conjunction with other members of our busy RISE team, housing options team, Prison Navigators and other third sector partners, you will be working with verified rough sleepers providing them a safe and welcoming temporary residence whilst you and the rest of the team help support them to move into accommodation by working with them to identify the barriers to change and also working closely with landlords and letting agents to secure accommodation appropriate to their specific needs.
You will need to be able to work proactively with this hard to engage client group and be able to gain their confidence and respect. This is about making a real difference on the frontline and will involve difficult conversations and liaising with different agencies and partners to meet the individual needs of those identified.
About you:
Promoting high standards and good practices, you will need a good understanding of the causes and issues around homelessness/rough sleeping and be able to work successfully alone, as well as part of a busy successful highly driven team.
You will have experience of working with and holistically assessing vulnerable people.
This is an interesting and varied role which is going to be led by the enthusiasm of the post holders.

The successful candidate will be provided with training but will already have experience of working with people with multiple needs. Applicants will need to be IT literate and have the ability to make on the spot decisions and be ready to sometimes deal with challenging situations.
Candidates must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act – for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).
