Hamoaze House is an independent charity who are motivated by a common concern for those people in Plymouth with multiple and complex needs. Currently BCHA host a 12-bed night shelter at our location. We believe in providing a high quality and compassionate service to those individuals, many of whom have a range of support needs, such as the problematic use of alcohol and/or drugs, mental health issues, homelessness and offending.
We intend to engage Complex Needs Support Workers (CNSW) to work closely with individuals using the Night Shelter service.
Job Description
Purpose of post
· To primarily get alongside and build authentic, meaningful, empathic relationships in order to provide one to one guidance and support to anyone who is homeless and has multiple complex needs, to provide day centre services and connect them with wider partnership services appropriate to their need.
Responsibilities
1. To work collaboratively with all services within the Plymouth Alliance and other services as appropriate ensuring individualised support and care
2. Be responsible for the general wellbeing of those in our care
3. Advocate on behalf of the individual
4. Provide guidance and signposting for clients with regards to welfare, benefits and accommodation
5. Keep accurate and up to date electronic and written records of interactions with clients and casework
6. Take on additional tasks as required and learn new skills
7. Maintain good, positive relationships with users of the service and with partner agencies
8. Carry out any other duties as requested from time to time that will enhance the work of Hamoaze House, improving outcomes
Other Activities:
1. Ensure that all processes, procedures, policies, and information and key performance targets are met.
2. Collate and analyse information relating to individuals and produce a quarterly report, including statistics to be presented at Trustee Meetings and to fulfil the requirements of the funding criteria
3. To lead on or participate in other reasonable activities i.e. day trips, fun activities
Person Specification
Hours will encompass day, evening and weekends and will be on a rota basis. Successful candidates will receive supervision and the opportunity to attend training sessions.
The successful candidate or candidates may have experience or knowledge of:
· Experience in the field of homelessness
· Understanding of providing a trauma informed approach
· A good understanding of issues facing homeless people
· Experience of working in the voluntary sector and/or previous experience of paid work or volunteering for a winter night shelter
· Previous experience of casework
· Good written and oral communication skills
· Good administrative and organisational skills
· Good interpersonal skills, including:
· An ability to listen
· Empathetic approach to people in difficult circumstances
· The ability to mediate and resolve conflicts
· A confident approach to and experience of dealing with challenging behaviour
· A working knowledge of the benefits system and social housing.
· Ability to take initiative and work productively unsupervised
· Is committed to providing an excellent service and to interact with individuals in a positive and respectful manner
· Is competent in the use of IT particularly Office 365
· Can present and speak to volunteers
· An understanding and knowledge of confidentiality
· A professional attitude to their work including punctuality, reliability and flexibility
· A willingness to undertake any training needed to support the job.
· Full UK Driving Licence
Desirable criteria
· NVQ L2 or L3 applicable qualification
· Relevant training certificates
· Lived Experience
