About the role
According to Shelter, currently one in every 206 people in England are without a home. We believe the church is ideally placed to be at the forefront of addressing this critical need. Our mission at Hope into Action is to enable the local church to house the homeless and we’re looking for Church and Tenant Empowerment workers to join our team in Cambridge.
We have two Empowerment Worker positions available which can be either part-time or full-time. You will be based in the Cambridge office working alongside the Cambridge team.
You will work in partnership with local churches to support and empower tenants in our homes. These tenants will have experienced homelessness, and it will be your role to support tenants to set and work towards personal goals and to empower them towards a fulfilled life, enabling them to move on to independent living.
Each home is partnered with a local church who provide love and friendship for the tenants that you will also support. This will involve actively engaging with the church and maintaining church interest in the Hope into Action project. The role includes training, equipping, and encouraging church volunteers in their role as mentors and befrienders to the tenants.
About you
You will be passionate about our work with the homeless and share our values. You will be able to work with church leaders and church members alike. You will need to be able to work with tenants with support needs, from a wide range of backgrounds.
We value good listening skills. The ability to work in a flexible team and learn new skills is important as we foster working within a strong supportive team. We are constantly looking to expand and open new homes in the city to serve the homeless. There may therefore be potential to increase your hours over time.
We love diversity and we value your unique skills, strengths, knowledge, and experience. Becoming one of our team may realise your potential, helping us to raise our performance in empowering those we serve.

About us
In Cambridge, we are at the forefront of providing excellent quality supported accommodation to those that need it most in the city. Partnering with 11 churches, we currently have 13 properties in Cambridge and surrounding towns, supporting over 30 adults and children.
We provide not just shelter and housing but also the friendship and community of a church. Together with 100 churches, Hope into Action UK provide direct support to people whom others have often given up on. Our first home had a real heart for men coming out of prison, but homes are now available for a wide range of people experiencing homelessness: people in recovery from addiction, people sleeping rough, women and children fleeing domestic violence, people coming out of rehab, former prostitutes, refugees, those suffering mental health issues and survivors of human trafficking. We encourage others to use our model by franchising the idea. Our vision is for every church to lovingly provide the homeless with a home. The tragedy of homelessness is in every community. We believe that with our help, every church can do something about it.
