HOPE (Health, Outreach, Prevention and Engagement) We are looking for a full time Harm Reduction Worker to join us in the HOPE team at Calderdale Recovery Steps. About the role… Are you passionate about making a positive impact on the lives of individuals facing complex challenges related to substance use? As a Harm Reduction Worker, you will play a pivotal role in our mission to promote harm reduction support and engagement of individuals with substance use issues, and complex lives.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Demonstrating excellent knowledge of all substances and understanding the complexities faced by people who use drugs living complex lives.
- Offering a wide range of harm reduction interventions, including Assertive outreach, Naloxone provision, Needle Syringe Programs, BBV testing, Injecting risks, Overdose awareness, Advocacy, Assessments and Training.
- Collaborating with housing providers, shelters, pharmacies, health centres, and community drop-ins to provide hands-on support.
- Utilizing excellent communication skills to build partnerships and work closely with various stakeholders.
- Advocating for, advising and engaging individuals who use drugs, helping them access the support they need.
- Raising public awareness on all aspects of substance use issues, trends and harm reduction.
- Working in a trauma-informed way to provide compassionate care and support.
- Collaborating with the wider Calderdale region to reduce harms associated with alcohol and other drug use.
- Adhering to flexible working hours, which may include some weekend work, to meet the dynamic needs of the service.

Salary ranges from £24,020 – £30,790 Please note this is a full time position - 37 hours per week (working pattern to be discussed at interview stage) No driving licence required. To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Excellent knowledge of various substances and their effects.
- A deep understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living complex lives and using drugs.
- Previous experience in harm reduction and related interventions.
- The ability to drive is essential and access to your own vehicle is desirable.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- A passion for supporting and advising individuals with substance use issues.
- The ability to work collaboratively with various community partners and stakeholders.
