Salary: £34,434 to £35,412 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week. Please note, this role requires working shifts, weekends, and providing overnight cover as part of a 24-hour service.

About This Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Cumberland Council’s Housing Options and Homelessness Service as a Homeless Officer within the Carlisle locality.
This is an exciting time to join the service as we continue to develop and transform homelessness services across Cumberland, with a strong focus on prevention, partnership working and improving outcomes for residents.
We are looking for motivated, resilient and customer-focused individuals who are passionate about preventing homelessness and supporting vulnerable households.
The successful candidates will manage a varied caseload across homelessness prevention, relief and statutory homelessness duties, working closely with partner agencies and internal services to secure positive outcomes for individuals and families facing housing difficulties.
Key Responsibilities Will Include
- Providing housing advice and homelessness casework in line with homelessness legislation and statutory duties
- Managing homelessness applications and assessments
- Developing and reviewing Personalised Housing Plans
- Supporting customers to access accommodation and sustain housing
- Working collaboratively with partner agencies including supported housing providers, health services and voluntary organisations
- Supporting households with complex needs and safeguarding concerns
- Contributing to the Council’s wider homelessness prevention and temporary accommodation priorities
Who We’re Looking For
The successful candidates will:
- Have experience of working within housing, homelessness, support services or a related field
- Possess strong communication, organisational and problem-solving skills
- Be able to manage a busy and demanding caseload
- Demonstrate a compassionate and professional approach when working with vulnerable customers
- Have knowledge of homelessness legislation and housing practice (desirable)
