Housing Officer Reference no: North Devon 5294183 Pay Rate: £24.40 per hour PAYE Hours per week: 37, Monday – Friday, 09:00 - 17:00 Role Length: This opening assignment is for 3 months Barnstaple, Devon, EX31 1DG Hybrid working, 2/3 days What's involved with this role: We are looking for an experienced Housing Officer to provide high-quality frontline housing advice and support to customers, helping them to maximise their housing options and prevent homelessness wherever possible.
he role involves assessing housing needs, providing tailored advice, and making decisions on homelessness applications in line with current legislation and Council policies.
Qualifications:
- You will be educated to at least HND/first degree level in housing or equivalent by experience.
- You will hold full membership of the Chartered Institute of Housing or other appropriate institution.
Skills & Experience required:
- Interviewing people formally or informally.
- Partnership working with other stakeholders.
- Technical and legal knowledge across the functions of homelessness prevention and homelessness to operate effectively.
- experience with mental health awareness, domestic violence awareness, understanding of welfare benefits and housing law in relation to immigration and young people.
Key Responsibilities:
- You will assess the housing needs of clients through office, telephone and home-based interviews and provide advice to help them find acceptable solutions to their housing problems.
- You will investigate service requests when clients present themselves as homeless or are threatened with homelessness and take action using the Council’s agreed homelessness prevention policies.
- You will administer and carry out the Council’s statutory obligations to people who are threatened with or are experiencing homelessness.
- You will supervise contractors who are engaged by the service.
- You will support the service in meeting its on-call and emergency responsibilities by providing advice by telephone and on-call cover outside of normal working hours.
