Housing & Homelessness

📍 Sheffield, South Yorkshire

Verified

YWCA Yorkshire has provided services to women, children and families in South Yorkshire since the 1940s, beginning with its first women's hostel in Sheffield. The charity now owns ten properties and manages 44 supported properties across the region, supporting more than 800 people a year in their own homes, in the community, and through three dedicated housing projects.

What we do

YWCA Yorkshire's named supported housing projects include Green Gables in Doncaster and Mexborough, Peile House (a hostel) in Sheffield, and Fleming Gardens in Rotherham. Its Rotherham and Doncaster projects specifically support young women and children aged 16 to 25 to prevent homelessness and recover from domestic abuse. Alongside its accommodation, the charity delivers specialist programmes including the Freedom Programme and Escape the Trap, both addressing domestic abuse, NOCN-accredited Life Skills Training, WRAP Plan Training, and the "You and Me, Mum" parenting support programme.

The charity has plans to expand its supported housing model into further towns and cities beyond its current South Yorkshire base.

Who we support

YWCA Yorkshire supports women, children and families affected by homelessness and domestic abuse, with a particular focus on young women aged 16 to 25, across Sheffield, Rotherham and Doncaster.
