Verified

WWIN (Wearside Women in Need) has provided specialist support to survivors of domestic abuse and their children across Wearside for over 40 years. As a feminist organisation, a number of WWIN's roles are restricted to women under the Occupational Requirement provisions of the Equality Act 2010, schedule 9.

What we do

WWIN provides one-to-one emotional and practical support and safety planning, group activities and support groups for both adults and children, and free trauma-informed counselling for anyone aged 16 or over who has experienced or witnessed abuse as a child or an adult. The charity also delivers joint work with non-abusive parents to support children and young people affected by domestic abuse.

Crucially, WWIN provides emergency refuge accommodation for women and children fleeing abuse, including self-contained flats for families and single-women refuge accommodation, with stays ranging from a few days up to six months and dedicated resettlement support to help survivors move on into the community. WWIN can also help source separate accommodation for male victims of abuse. Linked services include the "Right Turn" perpetrator programme and "Findaway", which supports concerned friends and family members.

Who we support

WWIN supports survivors of domestic abuse, stalking and sexual abuse, and their children, across Sunderland and the wider Wearside area.
