About Westward Housing Group

Westward Housing Group is one of the main affordable housing providers in the South West of England. It owns 7,866 homes and houses more than 18,000 people across Devon and Cornwall. Its main office is Templar House in Newton Abbot, with a second base at Tarka House in Bideford; both are open by appointment only. Accommodation and support services

Alongside general needs rented homes, shared ownership and housing for people aged 55 and over, Westward runs a dedicated support services arm. Its services include supported housing for vulnerable adults at risk of homelessness, accommodation and support for young women, support for parents and young parents, mental health support services, Housing Plus support, community-based support and a Helpline alarm service. An example is Alexandra House in Exmouth, a supported housing scheme for vulnerable adults with low to medium support needs, where staff help residents build support plans, manage tenancy and benefit issues and work with statutory and voluntary agencies. Westward describes its approach as strengths-based and recovery-focused: staff help customers set their own goals, from rebuilding family links to managing money or moving into work or college.

Where it works and who it supports

Westward's homes and support services are spread across Devon and Cornwall, from Bideford in the north to Exmouth on the south coast. Its support services take referrals from health professionals and social workers as well as self-referrals, and work with people at risk of homelessness, young women, parents, people with mental health needs and older people who need help to stay independent.
