Housing & Homelessness

📍 Wisbech, Cambridgeshire

Verified

The Ferry Project (registered charity no. 1075389) was founded in 1998/99 by members of Wisbech Churches Together and has grown to become the largest homelessness provider in Fenland, supporting an estimated 80% of local homeless people. Based at Octavia View in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, the charity now employs more than 40 staff and has supported over 3,500 people since it began.

Accommodation and support services

The Ferry Project provides up to 50 bed spaces of emergency, short-term and long-term hostel accommodation, with stays ranging from a single night to 18 months depending on need. Its Homelessness Hub, opened in 2019, delivers rapid rehousing and has helped more than 400 people, while a separate resettlement accommodation service bridges the gap between hostel life and independent living. The charity also activates Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) accommodation during cold weather, and runs a social-enterprise Cookery School that teaches food and life skills alongside a wider employment and training programme.

The Ferry Project follows a trauma-informed, psychologically-informed "No Wrong Door" approach: in the last year it provided over 30,000 nights of supported accommodation to 183 people, reported an 83% positive move-on rate, and saw 84% of participants achieve positive employment or education outcomes.

Who we support

The charity supports single homeless adults aged 18 to 65 across Fenland, including people affected by domestic violence, family breakdown, substance misuse, care leavers, survivors of sexual abuse and ex-offenders.
