Housing & Homelessness
📍 Stockport, Greater Manchester
Stockport Homes Group (SHG) is the umbrella body for four interdependent, socially minded housing companies based in Stockport, Greater Manchester. At its core is Stockport Homes, an arm's length management organisation formed in 2005 to manage the council's housing stock; it is now the borough's largest landlord, looking after more than 12,000 properties for Stockport Council and private landlords alongside a growing portfolio of its own new-build homes. The group reinvests all of its profit back into its work, and its stated mission is "One team, transforming lives".
Accommodation and support services
SHG describes itself as builder, landlord, architect and developer rolled into one, and its services stretch well beyond general-needs social housing. The group runs an Independent Living Carecall service that supports around 5,000 customers 24 hours a day through alarm monitoring, welfare visits, falls response and telecare, and it delivers housing-related support such as the CAS3 service for people leaving prison, helping them secure settled accommodation and reintegrate into the community. Its money advice team helps tenants navigate the benefits system and sustain their tenancies, and Neighbourhood Housing Officers provide front-line housing management across the borough.
- General-needs social housing and new affordable homes (Stockport Homes, Viaduct Housing Partnership)
- Independent living and Carecall telecare services
- Prison-leaver (CAS3) and housing-related support
- Money advice, employment support and community services (SKylight, a charitable community benefit society set up in 2018)
- Repairs, maintenance and construction (Three Sixty)
Where they work and who they support
The group is firmly rooted in Stockport, with its headquarters at Cornerstone on Edward Street in the town centre. Stockport Homes provides homes and services to over 24,000 customers across the borough, while Three Sixty's construction and maintenance work also reaches into wider Greater Manchester and Cheshire. Customers range from general social housing tenants to older and vulnerable people using independent living services, people facing poverty or unemployment supported by SKylight, and people leaving prison who need help finding a stable home.
