About St Martins

St Martins Housing Trust, known as St Martins, is a Norwich charity that has supported people experiencing homelessness in Norwich and Norfolk for more than fifty years. It grew out of the Norwich Night Shelter and today describes its purpose as improving the lives of the most vulnerable people while increasing compassion in the community. Registered charity number 802013 and a company limited by guarantee, it works alongside other voluntary organisations, housing associations and community and church groups to raise awareness of homelessness as a driver of social exclusion.

Accommodation and support services

St Martins runs a connected pathway of services. Bishopbridge House is a 30-bed direct access hostel, the only one in Norwich, and the Somewhere Safe to Stay Hub offers emergency space away from the street with staff on hand around the clock. The Pathways team carries out early-morning and late-night street outreach and advice for people sleeping rough. Second-stage "moving on" housing across the city lets residents stay for up to two years with varying support before moving to their own tenancies, and temporary accommodation is provided with Norwich City Council for single people whose homelessness applications are being assessed. For people with complex needs there is Highwater House, a registered care home for people with a dual diagnosis of mental ill health and substance use, Webster Court sheltered housing for over-50s, the Magdalen Road Project for people leaving residential or hospital placements, and the Bridges mental health drop-in. Under 1 Roof is the charity's own training and development centre.

Where St Martins works and who it supports

Services are based in Norwich, with head office at St Martins House, 120 Thorpe Road, and some roles reach further into Norfolk, including the Great Yarmouth area. The charity supports single adults aged 18 and over who are sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness, and notes growing numbers of young people, women and people with mental health and substance misuse problems.
