Petrus is a Rochdale-based homelessness charity that has been working with people who are homeless or in housing need for more than 50 years. It is part of The Regenda Group, a North West group that operates across housing, construction, care and support, and education and training. Petrus runs both residential services and day services, with its Hub and head office at 73 Great George Street in Rochdale town centre.

Accommodation and support services

Petrus provides supported housing for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and can house around 207 people at any one time. Its schemes range from shared houses with bedrooms and communal lounges and kitchens through to self-contained flats, and each resident works one-to-one with a support worker on a tailored plan covering money and benefits, tenancy management, physical and mental health, life skills and moving on to independent living. Alongside the housing schemes the organisation runs a town-centre Hub with drop-in and breakfast services, town centre outreach, a Housing First service, women-only supported accommodation and a women's centre, and the PIER community garden on Belfield Road.

Where they work and who they support

Services are concentrated in the Borough of Rochdale, with further schemes in Oldham and Bury and work extending into Burnley. Residents often have multiple and complex needs, including poor mental health, experience of domestic abuse, drug or alcohol problems, learning disabilities or contact with the criminal justice system. The women's service specialises in supporting women who are in contact with, or at risk of entering, the criminal justice system, and is funded through the Greater Manchester Women's Support Alliance and HM Prison and Probation Service.
