Nottingham City Council is the unitary authority for the city of Nottingham in the East Midlands and one of the city's largest employers. Its main offices are at Loxley House on Station Street, opposite Nottingham railway station, which also houses the Customer Hub where residents can reach Housing Aid, housing benefit, council tax and Jobcentre Plus services under one roof. The council's housing management arm, Nottingham City Council Housing Services (NCCHS), runs the city's council homes from its Harvey Road base.

Housing and homelessness services

The council's Housing Solutions service (still widely known as Housing Aid) delivers the statutory homelessness function for the city. It provides advice and assistance to anyone who is homeless or threatened with homelessness, covering finding accommodation, keeping an existing home, benefits, debt and budgeting, tenancy sustainment and safety at home. Dedicated pathways exist for prison leavers, care leavers, ex-armed forces personnel, people leaving hospital and those fleeing domestic abuse, and the council receives duty-to-refer notifications from public bodies. Its Social Lettings team works to open up private rented housing as a homelessness prevention tool, and a Private Rented Assistance Scheme and a Supported Housing Improvement Programme sit alongside this.

For people sleeping rough, the council operates a No Second Night Out policy and commissions Framework Housing Association's Street Outreach Team, with council Neighbourhood Safety Officers referring people they find on the streets. In cold weather, emergency shelters open in partnership with the Red Cross and the fire service.
