Housing & Homelessness

📍 Chatham, Kent

Verified

mhs homes is a housing charity and Kent's largest independent landlord, based at Broadside, Leviathan Way, Chatham, ME4 4LL. It provides and manages around 10,000 homes across north Kent and supports more than 26,000 customers with a team of over 300 colleagues. The organisation began life as Medway Housing Society on 27 July 1990, when it took on the council's housing stock as a non-registered body; in 2010 it created a registered subsidiary, Heart of Medway Housing Association, which now holds over 1,200 mostly newly built homes. Its stated ambition is to help end the housing crisis in north Kent by providing safe and sustainable homes.

Accommodation and support services

mhs homes is primarily a general-needs landlord offering affordable and social-rent homes, shared ownership and leasehold services, and it develops new homes through Heart of Medway. Its support offer sits within housing services rather than in separate hostels or supported schemes: teams provide tenancy sustainment, money and energy-bill advice, help with anti-social behaviour and domestic abuse, and support for residents in housing need, including vulnerable individuals and young people. The careers site describes housing services as helping to create stable, supportive communities and making sure customers have the support they need.

Customers include general-needs tenants, shared owners and leaseholders, with additional support directed at people in housing need and vulnerable residents. Vacancies are typically based at the Broadside head office in Chatham or the Royal Eagle depot.
