Who Manna House Are

Manna House is a charity (registered charity number 1147785) based at the Stephenson Centre in Kendal, providing a community of support for anyone in South Lakeland, Cumbria who is homeless, vulnerably housed, lonely or in need of help. It runs a regular programme of drop-in sessions, lunches and a Skills Café, alongside a volunteer-run League of Friends, founded in 2007, which raises funds for clients facing hardship.

Services

• Drop-in sessions and lunches on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, plus a Monday Conversation Café and rough sleeper outreach
• A Housing and Benefits Advice Service covering tenancy and eviction advice, benefits applications, budgeting help and advocacy for appeals
• Client Support Workers who carry out initial assessments, set goals with clients and make referrals into healthcare, food banks and other specialist services
• A Skills Café and Women's Group offering life-skills workshops, crafting and peer support, plus shower and laundry facilities, computer access, a nurse practitioner and an Emergency Homeless POD

Manna House describes its mission as delivering practical material assistance, acceptance and positive role models, housing and money advice, and learning opportunities that improve health, wellbeing and employment prospects. It is a well-known fixture of the South Lakeland community, run by a small staff team supported by a large base of volunteers.

Working at Manna House

Staff and volunteers work side by side across the Drop In, Client Support, Skills Café and Learning Kitchen services, bringing compassion and acceptance to people affected by homelessness and vulnerable housing. Roles range from front-line Client Support Workers who carry out assessments and referrals to volunteers who run workshops, cook lunches or support the housing and benefits advice service.
