Who Maggs Day Centre Are

Maggs Day Centre has supported people experiencing homelessness, vulnerability and social isolation across Worcestershire for over 40 years, since 1985. While its Worcester Day Centre is the charity's flagship hub, Maggs' work reaches across the county through outreach, community hubs and partnerships in Worcester, Malvern, Redditch and the surrounding areas, so that people can get help closer to where they are. Its approach is described as flexible, trauma-informed and low-barrier, built on trusted relationships rather than fixed timescales, meeting people at their own pace rather than applying a one-size-fits-all model.

Services

• Open-access day centres in Worcester, Malvern and Redditch offering a safe space with no appointment or referral needed, plus a hot breakfast cooked by volunteers every morning
• Crisis support acting as a first point of contact for people needing immediate practical help, such as food, a shower or someone to talk to
• Housing and accommodation support, helping people move away from homelessness into safe, stable accommodation and then sustain that tenancy through structured, ongoing support
• Health and wellbeing services, a Clothing Project providing essential clothing, and community and recovery support including allotment and outreach activity to help people rebuild connection, purpose and independence

Maggs supports adults facing homelessness, rough sleeping, vulnerable housing situations and social isolation across Worcestershire, connecting people between crisis support, accommodation, health services and longer-term recovery rather than treating each as a separate, one-off service.

Working at Maggs Day Centre

Roles span frontline day centre and outreach workers delivering crisis and practical support, housing and accommodation support workers helping people secure and sustain tenancies, health and wellbeing support staff, and community/recovery workers running longer-term group and one-to-one support. Staff and volunteers work directly alongside guests with a consistent, dignity-led approach, and the charity relies heavily on volunteers across its day centres and community projects to keep services running throughout Worcestershire.
