Who Jigsaw Homes Group are

Jigsaw Homes Group is one of the larger housing associations in England, owning and managing more than 37,500 homes across the North West and the East Midlands. The group is made up of several member landlords that operate as a single organisation under the strapline "Creating homes. Building lives." It employs over 1,500 people, with head offices in Tameside (Cavendish 249, Cavendish Street, Ashton-under-Lyne) and Nottinghamshire, plus a regional office at Turner House in Leigh. Alongside its landlord business the group runs a charitable arm, the Jigsaw Foundation, which funds community projects.

Accommodation and support services

The part of the group most relevant to homelessness and supported-housing careers is Jigsaw Support, a Community Benefit Society within the group. It provides homelessness prevention and supported accommodation, community outreach and prevention services, and domestic abuse and community support for vulnerable people across Greater Manchester and the wider North West. Its recruitment adverts describe a team of more than 160 colleagues working from offices in Ashton-under-Lyne and Leigh and from supported accommodation projects across the region, supporting over 6,000 people a year through commissioned contracts. One of those contracts is a 24-hour homeless accommodation service in Ashton-under-Lyne, where staff help people with complex needs overcome barriers and resettle in the community; the service also provides an out-of-hours function for partner agencies. The group also has a separate Independent Living division for older and vulnerable residents in sheltered schemes.

Where they work and who they help

Jigsaw's homes and services are concentrated in Greater Manchester (Tameside, Wigan and surrounding boroughs), Lancashire (including Lancaster and Morecambe) and parts of the East Midlands. Support customers range from single homeless adults with complex needs to survivors of domestic abuse and older people needing help to stay independent. General-needs residents are supported by neighbourhood, allocations and lettings teams.

What it is like to work there

Jigsaw was accredited as an "outstanding" employer in the Best Companies 2023 survey, and its benefits package is above average for the sector. Staff get 24 days' annual leave plus bank holidays, rising to 29 days after five years, plus three paid concessionary days over Christmas. There is an option to buy or sell up to five days' leave, and many roles offer compressed hours, a four-day working week or up to 50 per cent home working once probation is passed. Employees are enrolled in the Social Housing Pension Scheme with an 8 per cent employer contribution, receive occupational sick pay, enhanced family leave and BHSF health cash plan membership, and can use fully equipped gyms at the three main offices.
