emh Care and Support is the care and supported-housing arm of emh group, a social housing provider based in Coalville, Leicestershire that owns and manages affordable homes across the East Midlands. Where emh Homes looks after general rented and shared-ownership housing, the Care and Support division concentrates on people who need something more than a tenancy: homelessness services, supported living, day opportunities and homes with care. Its stated purpose is to provide homes and care that improve people's opportunities, and it has published a group-wide homelessness strategy setting out how it prevents homelessness, provides accommodation and works in partnership with councils and charities.

Accommodation and support services

The homelessness side of the service runs temporary and supported accommodation for single people and for families. Named schemes include Henson House in Blaby (11 self-contained flats), Durban House in Coalville plus bed spaces in shared supported houses, Maidstone House in Leicester for single adults and couples who have been homeless for long periods, Myst Lodge in Melton, and a Rough Sleepers Project across Leicester and Leicestershire that pairs accommodation with intensive wraparound support. Referrals for several schemes come through district councils. Alongside this, emh runs supported living for adults with learning disabilities and other needs, day opportunities across Derbyshire, homes with care and support, and retirement living.

Where they work and who they support

Services are spread across the East Midlands: Leicester and Leicestershire (Blaby, Coalville, Melton), Derbyshire (Chesterfield, Buxton, Glossop, Matlock, Bolsover, Shirebrook) and Nottinghamshire. The people supported include those who have experienced homelessness or rough sleeping, young parents, adults with learning disabilities, older people, and survivors of domestic abuse. The team works closely with local authorities, health providers, other housing associations and voluntary groups, and involves customers in decision-making through regular forums.

Care and Support pay is set at least six per cent above the National Living Wage, and the division advertises 28 days' annual leave, paid learning time, career development and access to overtime. Typical roles are support workers (including waking-night and weekend shifts), project workers in the homelessness schemes, housing officers and team leaders; enhanced DBS checks are funded by the employer.
