Doorstep (registered as Grimsby and Cleethorpes Area Doorstep, charity number 702881 and company number 2494315) is a registered charity delivering early help and homelessness prevention in North East Lincolnshire, working with young people and young families aged 16 to 25. Its mission is to support young people to lead independent and settled lives, using a relational, trauma-informed and strengths-based model rather than a purely crisis-driven service.

What they do

Doorstep exists because too many young people and young families in North East Lincolnshire reach adulthood without the security, relationships, money, confidence or support networks they need to live safely and independently. The charity provides supported housing and floating support across Grimsby and Cleethorpes, combining practical housing solutions with consistent, trusted relationships — helping young people sustain tenancies, develop life skills, and build confidence to take on increasing responsibility as they move towards independent living.

Their approach

Doorstep's model is built around three principles: leading with relationships rather than stepping back once a service is provided; being trauma-informed, prioritising calm, consistent and predictable environments for young people who may have experienced instability or fractured relationships; and prioritising strengths, focusing on each young person's potential rather than only their immediate crisis. The organisation is governed by a voluntary Board of Trustees, with day-to-day delivery led by a Senior Manager, and is led operationally by CEO Julie Walmsley.
