Housing & Homelessness

📍 London, Greater London

Verified

akt is the UK's national charity dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, founded in 1989. It exists because no young person should have to choose between a safe home and being who they are, responding to evidence that LGBTQ+ young people face a significantly higher risk of homelessness, often after coming out to family.

What they do

akt provides supported housing placements where young people can live safely while pursuing education, training or employment, backed by dedicated caseworkers who give one-to-one, personalised support. Its services extend to mental health guidance, financial advice, and an online resource hub, with live chat support available nationwide.

Where and who

The charity runs physical service centres in London, Manchester and Newcastle, and reaches young people across the whole of the UK through its Digital Service, working with well over a thousand vulnerable young people each year.

Working there

Roles span supported housing management, housing support work and inclusion/development coordination. akt is a Real Living Wage and Disability Confident employer, offering flexible working, an employee assistance programme, generous annual leave, a contributory pension and clinical supervision for roles working directly with young people.
